About Me

Robert O. Nestor Jr.

Hi there, I'm the owner of CanDo CAD & Design. Let me tell you a little about myself and how this web site came to be.

Ever since I can remember, I loved to draw. I think it started back in elementary school with the free hand sketches during coloring time, entering your artwork on "Tippy the Turtle" and that "Pirate with the patch" contest to just plain doodling on your home made paper bag book covers.

After graduating the trade of manual machine drafting, I started a job with a company called SPT. This company produced several sized heating ovens which soldered and refluxed circuit boards while on a conveyor. My duties as the sole draftsperson was to draw everything, which included fabrication drawings for sheet metal, structural framing, mechanical motor & gear work, electrical component & wiring diagrams and all the drawings needed to assemble these machines. The sales department also needed machine footprints and isometric details from time to time.

This company took me and my soon to be wife Karen on a journey to North Carolina, where the company changed hands to become ABW Systems. This company produced a machine that was inline with the heating ovens and wanted to market the product line. Again, unbelievable as it sounds, I was still the only detailer. During this time I went to school to learn computer drafting on AutoCAD release 10 and progressed to working on release 11 & 12.

After a few years with ABW, I moved on just across town to a company called Square D. Here I learned a whole new CAD system called Prime Medusa. This time I was one of the designers for a product called the "Alti-start". This product consisted of electrical contactor and relay components which provided a starting sequence all contained in a box which was available in various sizes. With this drafting program we provided drawings for sheet metal fabrication and electrical assembly and wiring diagrams.

After marriage and the birth of my 1st child Amy, we decided to move back home to Massachusetts where I got a job with JF White as a detailer for the concrete forms division. Here, I worked with another individual as a team using AutoCAD 13 & 14. We were in charge of providing the senior designer with details of roadway sections, concrete columns etc. so that he could design the plywood encasements for the concrete pour.

From there I moved on to working for an ornamental steel company, during which came the birth of my 2nd child Robbie. Here, I worked with another individual that still drafted on the board as I drafted on AutoCAD 14 and 2002. Our duties were to provide drawings to the clients for approval and then shop drawings for fabrication. The bulk of the business was targeted for the construction industry on a large scale.

For me this was an exciting experience, providing such items made from steel. This inspired me to start a service that could provide the average client with quality workmanship on architectural creations. This opened the door for other vendors that were interested in allowing me to promote their expertise, combined with my ability in providing detailed documents, this would provide our future clients with the professional satisfaction of a job well done.
So, I hope you enjoyed my web site, and I look forward to working with you on your next project. And just remember…weCanDoThat!
